Have you always wanted to try your hand at home-made dog treats and only now found the time to do so? Here’s a really simple recipe to get you whipping up some yummy healthy peanut butter treats for your furry friend.
Peanut Butter Biscuits
- Equipment you need
- Large mixing bowl
- Wooden spoon
- Rolling pin
*Don’t have a rolling pin? You can use a wine bottle or any straight glass bottle to get the job done.
* For fancier biscuit shapes you can use a cookie-cutter.
- 2 cups of plain flour (you can use gluten-free flour if you prefer)
- ½ cup of peanut butter (must not contain xylitol – check ingredients on the label)
- 2 eggs
- Water – amount used will vary because of flour types, moisture level of peanut butter and size of eggs used
- Mix the ingredients together until well combined. You can use a wooden spoon or if you’re like me, you might just roll up your sleeves and dive your hands straight in.
- Add water slowly until your mixture becomes wet enough to roll out as dough.
- Roll out your dough to desired thickness. Personally I make mine about 1.5 cm thick.
- Cut into suitable shapes. Your choice here. I tend to go fast and simple and cut mine into squares or rectangles. You might like to freehand bone shapes or use a cookie cutter.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes at 180 degrees Celsius. Please note this time will vary depending on your oven, if you are using fan-forced heat and also on the thickness of your cut shapes.
My top tips here are:
- If you are using a fan-forced oven, reduce the temperature by 20 degrees.
- Check your biscuits after 10 minutes so that you gauge how they are progressing. Once you have baked these to perfection note down the thickness you rolled your dough out to and the exact cooking time, oven temperature and fan used or not. Believe me it saves a whole lot of drama and clock watching next time.
- Let cool and let the drool begin.
